Statement of Faith

I. We believe in the Triune God. All praise be to the Father, to the Son of God Christ Jesus, and to the Holy Spirit.

II. We believe in the Holy Roman Catholic Church, the True Bride of Christ, currently under the leadership of his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI. This blog is loyal to the Holy See and to the Magisterium of the Holy Roman Catholic Church. Any statements contrary to the Catholic faith are made in error.

II. We pray for Christian unity, and for the conversion of all sinners.

Statement of Values

IV. Pleasure is not the first principle. We believe in the virtue of chastity, and moreover we live it by the grace of God and through the intercession of the Blessed Mother, all of the angels and the saints.

V. By virtue of chastity we make the conscious effort to dress and behave “modestia.” Modesty is not a list of restrictive fashion rules; it is a lifestyle of dignity and beauty.

VI. God calls women in a special manner to be a light to the world. By exploring our femininity, maturing in our Catholic faith, and traveling the path of intellectual curiosity, we seek ways in which we can be “salt and light” to all whom encounter us.

Official Modestia Causes

I. The Culture of Life

We here at Modestia uphold the dignity of all human persons, born and unborn, believers and unbelievers, sinners and saints. We pay particular attention to the sin of abortion and helping women choose life for their babies.

II. Violence Against Women

Modestia abhors any and all forms of physical, emotional, and spiritual abuse of our sisters around the world. Through the exploration of cultural, religious, and economic factors, we search for solutions to the sufferings of women. We pay special attention to the sin of human trafficking and the greater sex industry.

III. Equal Education

Modestia believes in equal education for all. We support all women in their intellectual expansion, for it is for the betterment of the Kingdom of God.

IV. The Feminine Genius

In his work Mulieris Dignitatem (On the Dignity & Vocation of Women), his Holiness John Paull II expounded on the inherent gifts of women, in what he called the “genius” of our gender. Women are specially gifted to be sensitive to the needs of others. Modestia explores this idea and searches for ways to manifest God’s love and compassion into the world because as the old saying goes, “As the women go, so does society.”

V. Vocations to Marriage & Religious Life

Being that all persons are called into greater communion with God, we actively prepare ourselves for our vocations in marriage, religious life, or singleness. Modestia believes in active participation with the grace of God to find holy life partners. Dating and courtship are for the purpose of marriage, not play. We pray for vocations and support our sisters contemplating the life of a “sponsa Christi” or bride of Christ.

VI. Fighting Poverty

As members of the Body of Christ, the concerns and sufferings of others are taken as our own. We pray and act for an end to worldwide poverty.

Such are the beliefs and values of Modestia.

Mary Mother of God, ora pro nobis.

St. Joseph, ora pro nobis.

St. Therese of Liseux, ora pro nobis.

Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccáta mundi, miserére nobis.
