life is beautiful.

catholicinfilmschool on Jul 20th 2009 12:20 pm

It really, truly, is.

An update on my friend—

The individual who shot my friend has been arrested and is now in jail. The police are still looking for the other two people that were in the car. My friend’s family asks that we pray for the shooter, that no harm comes to her while in jail, and that she have a conversion while awaiting trial.

I was able to see my hurt friend twice this weekend, once at Catholic Underground and again at mass the next day. She’s walking on her own, though very slowly, but her recovery is on track and she should be back to normal within a few months.

I hadn’t seen her in about two weeks, and just watching her walk made me cry. Life is beautiful. Please don’t forget it.

In other news, the father of a certain blogging friend of mine has passed away. She knows she has my support, and your prayers for her and her family would be appreciated.

Totus Tuus!

catholicinfilmschool on Apr 7th 2009 01:16 pm

A friend of mine had a party after mass on Sunday to celebrate John Paul II’s life. (The 4th anniversary of his death was last Thursday.) One of my CU girlfriends who is an amazing cook and baker made this cool rum & carmel cake for the party!

You have to admit this cake is pretty cool. And it was yummy too!

Christmas ‘08: I sprained both of my arms.

catholicinfilmschool on Dec 29th 2008 12:50 pm

Merry Christmas!!

I hope you had a good few days off with your family and friends. My Christmas celebration was spread over three days, the first being at home in San Diego with my mom, aunt, and her goddaughter.

I usually do the Christmas decorating, but since I didn’t come home until last Monday my mother decorated the entire house….so I wasn’t able to stop her from putting this golden floral explosion on top of the tree that as you can see from the picture, she thinks is majestic or aesthetically pleasing or something…

Christmas day is usually spent at my aunt’s house in Temecula, but my newly graduated cousin is now a counselor at a group home and had to work Christmas Day, so we decided to have the normal family celebration on the 26th.

The day after Christmas I drove up to Temecula, where we had dinner, and then went outside to see “the show.” My aunt’s next-door-neighbor spends all year building attractions for his house for Halloween and Christmas. It gets more huge every year, this time including a video presentation and Disney characters (which were his reluctant kids):

L-R: Mickey, my cousin Courtney, Minney, my cousin Tiffany, myself, & a shy Santa…I asked Santa if he was getting paid and he shook his head “no.”

I suppose there always has to be at least one family fight, this time because one of my little cousins thought he was too mature to take a picture with Mickey…the truth was that he had no choice in the matter…

After the photo ops, half the neighborhood came over and we cracked open some wine and spent 45 minutes trying to figure out how to sing the “12 Days of Christmas” until someone thought to Google it.

My cousins got a Wii for Christmas, so we wrapped up the night with a tipsy old folks (including the grandmas) vs. kids tennis match.

That was the point in the night where I sprained both of my arms. We’re a hardcore competitive family that once upon a time made a family friend’s boyfriend cry during a game of Taboo. (That game has been banned from all family functions since ‘95.)

And yes, my arms still hurt.

coats galore!

catholicinfilmschool on Nov 24th 2008 10:15 am

I love coats, and now is about the time to hit up the sales to get the best price for the coming winter months. Some finds around the internet:

MyShape.com

Mango Shop.com

Overstock.com

All of these coats range from around $100 – $210. If you are in need of a new coat, I would also stop by the Burlington Coat Factory and Martin & Osa.

problems reading the site?

catholicinfilmschool on Nov 21st 2008 11:28 am

It has come to my attention that the layout of this site does not appear correctly in Internet Explorer on a PC. If you’re having this problem, update your Internet Explorer to at least version 7 and let me know if that doesn’t help. If not, I will move this blog to another hosting server, something I’ve been thinking about doing for a while anyway.

It’s cold! we must adapt.

catholicinfilmschool on Nov 10th 2008 01:11 am

It has finally gotten cold out here in LA.

I went shoe shopping over the weekend and bought two pairs of Steve Maddens, my brand of choice for heels and boots. I bought some black suede boots and some brown Mary-Jane-esque heels with a really cute button detail from DSW.

Now that it is finally getting cold, it is time for us girls to adapt. This week will be dedicated to fall fashion steals and deals.

Don’t ask me what i was.

catholicinfilmschool on Nov 3rd 2008 02:13 am

I had a pretty low key Halloween…which was exactly the way I wanted it.

Some friends and I went trick-or-treating and then came back to campus for food, drink, and lame “scary movies.” It was fun.

I would tell you what I was, but I’m not quite sure myself…

My friend was like, “You look like you just won that car.”

I’ve got more photos up on FB.

now this is what I call women’s rights.

catholicinfilmschool on Oct 8th 2008 12:14 am

The Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) has welcomes a proposal to extend maternity-leave benefits to a minimum of 18 weeks for women working in European Union countries. COMECE said that the plan “would allow women to achieve a better balance between work and family life, whilst guaranteeing greater fairness in wages between men and women. It would also contribute to slowing down the birth decrease in Europe.” Source

New thread: What I wore to ____ today.

catholicinfilmschool on Aug 10th 2008 09:05 pm

Every so often I will post pictures of what I wore somewhere, be it a party, an event, etc. Since it’s Sunday, this is what I wore to mass this morning:

The top is from Target, which I bought randomly last night after going to the movies. I don’t usually wear floral fabrics, but it was on sale and it jumped out at me. My pants are a denim trouser I got at Old Navy maybe two or three months ago.

I bought these sandals a few years ago at a random boutique in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Accessories:

This rosary bracelet is from the gift shop of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney, Australia.

This is my chastity ring, something that was a gift and therefore I can’t tell you where it’s from. (Sorry.)

And lastly, my glasses are the Absolutely Fabulous Vintage Gold Rimmed Sunglasses from Lulus.com.

I would actually like to include reader outfits as well. If you would like to be featured, let me know.

BTW: If you want to learn more about me…

catholicinfilmschool on Aug 9th 2008 12:36 am

A four-page interview with me is posted at Soul Food Cinema.com, one of my CFS site affiliates.

I didn’t mention this blog because the interview was about CFS and my film projects, but regardless, reading it will give you more insight into who I am.

Modestia awards: Nicky Hilton

catholicinfilmschool on Aug 7th 2008 01:41 am

Why yes, it is the apocalypse. I am applauding Nicky Hilton on this blog (at least for five minutes.)

I was parousing a fashion blog when I saw this photo:

Cute shirt, cute shades, very cute bag, and…do my eyes deceive me? Is that…a rosary necklace? I wanted to cry from joy when I saw this. There are all kinds of individuals both famous and non-famous alike who wear rosaries as jewelry. Don’t misunderstand me here, it is not improper to wear a rosary around your neck. As a matter of fact, I’ve read that historically rosaries were typically worn around the neck. I myself do it on occasion tucked into my shirt as a reminder to pray it sometime during the day like Eduardo Verastegui here on the right.

However, for some reason in our modern age, the rosary has become a fashion statement. I’ve seen rosaries in music videos, on TV and in movies, etc. There are actual rosary necklaces (like this one here) that are in the style of a rosary if that’s the look you want. But an actual rosary is a prayer, it’s a devotion to our Lady, not something to show off.

For your proper wearing of a rosary necklace Nicky, you win a Modestia award. :)

site highlight (plus): bandlu.com

catholicinfilmschool on Aug 6th 2008 11:47 am

Because plus size girls want to be fashionably modest too…

If you are well endowed, sometimes modesty can be slightly tough. I myself am very shapely, and I’ve had to retire old dresses and skirts that were a little too revealing around my hips and backside.

Bandlu.com has a number of very chic, modest choices for plus size women. Behold:

The look of the week posted to the right is also from Bandlu.

Happy shopping ladies, Rebecca.
