I’ve seriously been listening to their debut album all weekend. The sisterly duo from Portland, Oregon are the daughters of Christian missionaries. The experiences from what I imagine can only ensue from such a lifestyle shines through their lyrics—the wonderment of God and the beauty of a relationship with the Lord mixed in with a little feminine angst. Musically, they remind me of Tegan and Sara, another pair of sisters I’m a big fan of, but I think Tal & Acacia have a bit more soulful depth to their voices.

Wake Me is available on Amazon & ITunes for $5.99.

I “discovered” Looklet yesterday while at work, came straight home, and then created a page. I apparently spent about three hours making outfits when I noticed it was dark out, and my stomach was hurting because I was hungry, LOL.

The site is in its beta version, so there are a few kinks here and there (ex: swimwear is listed as underwear), but overall, it’s a lot of fun. It’s definitely a great tool for girls that may be new to modesty, or are still a little afraid to experiment.

Some looks I made last night:

Gossip Girl circa ‘85

Early Fall Day

Drinks With the Girls

Hippy Picnic

You can check out my page of looks here. I’m not done yet!

I’m thinking about doing some sort of giveaway contest with the site. Cutest look wins? What do you think?

Yay!!!

I’ve been hinting at it for a while now, and am so relieved I can now officially announce Decent Exposure, a modest fashion formation program for teenage girls, set to begin next week.

Together with Jessica Rey of Rey Swimwear, Katelyn Rose of Suddenly Darling, and a number of modest-minded friends, actors, and models from LA, we will be teaching our very first class of girls about Catholic womanhood, chastity, modesty, and of course—fashion! The four-week program will conclude with a fashion show on July 11th. We’re still in the planning phase for that show, but once we firm up the celebrity host and entertainment I will announce the info. At the moment we’re talking to Beverley Mitchell’s people. (Remember Lucy from 7th Heaven?)

The website for DE is being built as I type, but in the meantime we would love for you to join our group on Facebook.

Each week I will blog about the girls’ progress. I will also be directing a reality series based on the show to be released on DVD early next year.

If you are interested in bringing Decent Exposure to your city, let me know and we will certainly work with you! This is our first go-round, but we certainly plan on taking this program to a national level. Any one of us would be available to help you plan or travel to give a talk/keynote speech.

Your prayers for the success of the program would be greatly appreciated.

And for my plus sized girls, rejoice and be glad! There are hundreds of plus sized items already listed for sale, and many of the designers will make most of their pieces in any size as long as you send them your measurements. Be sure to communicate with the seller/designer before you check out.

Etsy is also a prime source for more feminine every day items, like purses and books. Modestia reader Kristin Saegaert sells really adorable handmade books on Etsy like journals and photo albums.

I typed in “Catholic” to see what I would get: mostly rosaries, pop art, icons, and other jewelry. This rosary bracelet is $20!

Etsy would be a prime resource for custom birthday gifts or a unique dress for that special occasion. I certainly will be highlighting products from this site again!

I never talk politics on this blog because 1) it’s not what this blog is about and 2) because I write about politics almost every week in my news column back home and I already have to take behavioral drugs just to do that.

I’m kidding.

But I, like many Americans (and global citizens for that matter) was shocked—SHOCKED I TELL YOU—when I learned that John McCain had picked Alaskan governor Sarah Palin as his VP. But unlike many Americans I knew exactly who Sarah Palin was, and by consequence was ecstatic to hear the news. I’ve been keeping track of her for at least 7 or 8 months. Palin’s name came up when I did some research on possible female VP’s I would actually vote for, but she really hit my radar when I read she was suing the Bush administration on behalf of her state Alaska.

You can consider this post an endorsement. I will be creating a “Palin Watch” thread on this site. There are already a plethora of lies being spread about her (which I will be addressing in this week’s news column)…and I look forward to watching her put the press in their place. Plus, she’s got style!

Pax Christi, Rebecca.

PS: My prayer intention this week is for those affected by Hurricane Gustav. And if you’re interested in other GOP newcomers, keep your eyes on the Golden Boy.

Dare I give in to the hype? Jindal/Palin 2012? *gasps….sucks in breath*

Update Numero Uno:

Palin’s daughter is pregnant? Do you care? I don’t, but I do think we should have known on day one.
