Well, fall has already been here, but it’s been so hot in LA that it hasn’t really felt like it. But now it’s getting colder and we finally get to see fall/winter fashion reflected in daily life.
If you’re in the LA area in the next few days, my friends over at Los Angeles Pregnancy Services are hosting a benefit dinner Thursday evening at a ritzy hotel in downtown LA. Famed Catholic speaker Jesse Romero will be giving the keynote speech.
LAPS is slowly converting from a “center” to a “clinic,” the difference between the two being medical staff and medical equipment. Research has shown that a simple ultrasound can have an incredibly powerful influence on the choice between abortion and life for a child. But LAPS, and Catholic pregnancy centers like LAPS go so much further than pre-natal counseling—LAPS provides financial assistance, parenting classes, adoption placements, chastity talks, NFP courses, etc. LAPS also provides post-abortion counseling for women who need it.
This is all to say that LAPS is doing some amazing work. I’m pretty sure the deadline has passed to RSVP for the actual dinner, but if you can, please consider donating to the center that is saving so many lives.
In other news…I see that “The Butterfly Circus”, winner of the 2009 DoorPost Film Project, is making its way around the blogosphere. Catholic Underground LA will be screening the film followed by a panel discussion with the actors and director this Saturday. (For you swooning ladies, I’m pretty sure Eduardo Verastegui is coming.) If you’re not my friend on Facebook, look to the sidebar, add me, and I’ll send you an invite to the event.

PS: I haven’t had a chance to get my still camera fixed yet, but I will try to take some photos of my outfits for each event.
Sarah Jessica Parker – Very interesting use of a t-shirt. Love it.
Ivanka Trump with Oliva Palermo – All in all, the ladies look very chic. I especially like Olivia’s embellished necklace. That paired with her hairstyle makes her look regal at best.
Kelly Rowland + Kim Kardashian – While the dresses may be a little short for some tastes, the colors in each outfit are gorgeous.
HIllary Duff – A nice twist in the detailing of “The Little Black Dress.” I like it.
It attracted all sorts of people, including Playboy promoters, Texas housewives, and your typical fashionable hipsters. It was definitely a place to people watch, LOL.
Day 1:
Got there early to help Jes set up her booth.
BTW, the mannequin’s name is “Mani.”
We didn’t do very much at the actual show the first day. Once it ended, Jes and her friend Mae and I headed to an evening mass, then to dinner in Little Italy. After that, we headed to the home of Katelyn Rose of Suddenly Darling for dessert! We had mango mochi…it was yummy…and she and her family are lovely.
Day 2:
The second day was more hectic. There was way more traffic at the event, plus the line was showing in the fashion show.
We also had a special visitor—Tracy Lynn Cruz, a former Power Ranger! She was so sweet! All we talked about was modesty and working in the entertainment industry.
After that, we packed up the booth and headed back to Katelyn’s house for dinner with her whole family. All in all, it was a great weekend. Over the next few weeks, I will be highlighting some of my favorite designers from the show.
I helped host the Louisiana-based band L’angelus this weekend for Catholic Underground (which was the reason I was too busy to make posts.) The band is made up of siblings Stephen, Katie, and Paige Rees, and may I just say that they were SUPER fun to hang out with for a few days.
They are genuinely nice people, authentically Catholic, and very talented! Throughout the weekend I kept noticing that Paige and Katie are super cute and dress very modestly!

I’m always interested in what organizations celebrities are endorsing. I know people say they don’t care what any actress has to say, but honestly if I was a celeb I would try to promote as many great causes as I could.
One of our fave Modestia chicks Ali Landry attended Baskin Robins’ “Wrapped With a Bow” event a few days ago.
Catholic Underground is this weekend. There won’t be a December CU so I suggest you come and get your kicks on Saturday or else you’ll have to wait until January.
Fr. Augustino and Br. David are flying out from the Bronx friary to MC and will be giving a talk at 6:30 pm, though the regular party starts at 8 pm. The Thirsting will be our entertainment for the night. I’ve never heard of them, but I’m hoping that I will like them and subsequently add them to the list of music I would like to use in Pilgrims.
I’m really really excited about meeting Fr. Augustino for the first time. Fr. Stan was the first CFR I ever met when he came and performed at my high school once upon a decade ago. I think Fr. Stan would leave an impression on just about anyone, so I checked out the community’s website, which has an e-letter of spiritual thoughts and advice posted every week.
I am not embarrassed to say this—I’ve been reading the CFR e-letter off and on for years, and since Fr. Augustino writes for the e-letter often I guess you could say I’m kind of a fan…in addition to being a CFR groupie.

If you need some more CFR goodness in your life, watch this short documentary on them. It must have been made a while ago as some of the friars are still being called “Brother” but have been introduced to me as ordained priests:
I try to research as many apparel resources for this site as I can.
Be advised that while most of the links in my "Modest Apparel" category are from designers who specifically design modest apparel, some of the websites include only a select amount of modest choices. Modest dress is dependent on styling. If it isn't modest, make it modest.
One asterisk (*) next to a link means it is a plus size site. Two asterisks (**) indicate that the site sells both plus size and average size apparel.
